Safeguarding of Children and Adults at Risk

Adopted: 1st January 2026 | Next Review: January 2028

SMBC is governed and guided by the policies of the landlord, Sefton MBC, since visitors use the pond at their own risk. Furthermore, the Committee insist that youngsters are present at club sessions under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.

1. Our Commitment

Southport Model Boat Club wants everyone who visits or takes part in our activities to feel safe, welcome and respected.

We are committed to protecting the welfare of children (under 18) and adults who may be at risk, and we take any concerns about safety or wellbeing seriously.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.

2. Who This Applies To

This statement applies to:

  • All Club members and volunteers, and
  • All Club activities at Rotten Row Pond and any other venues.

Although the Club does not run activities specifically for children or adults at risk, we know that they may be present at our events or locations.

3. What We Expect from Members

We ask all members to:

  • Behave in a way that is kind, respectful and appropriate,
  • Encourage parents, responsible adults or carers to supervise children,
  • Avoid being alone with a child or adult at risk where possible,
  • Avoid unnecessary physical contact,
  • Act in a way that cannot be misunderstood.

4. If You Are Worried About Someone

If you are concerned about the safety or wellbeing of a child or adult at risk:

  1. Do not promise to keep it a secret.
  2. Write down what you have seen or been told (as soon as you can).
  3. Tell the Safeguarding Lead or a Committee member straight away.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

The Safeguarding Lead will decide whether to contact local safeguarding services or the police.

5. Looking After This Statement

The Committee will:

  • Appoint a Safeguarding Lead,
  • Review this statement every two years or if guidance changes.
